Frequently Asked Questions

How does bartering work?
Barter members sell some of their products or services to other members and receive barter dollars. Then the members can use those dollars to buy the things they need from any other member of Domino Barter.

What are the fees?
Restaurants and media companies can join with no cash fees. Their fees can be paid in trade at very low rates.
For other companies the monthly membership fee is only $5. There is no application fee.

Can I put limits on barter sales?
Yes. We actually encourage limits. Some businesses may only barter up to a certain amount of sales per month. Some contractors can only barter for the labor fees. A furniture store might only barter the scratch & dent items. A caterer might barter for events feeding only 25 people or fewer. Some web designers might only barter during their slow season (winter). You get the point ...

Is there a contract?
No. Either Domino Barter or the member may terminate a membership at any time for any reason or no reason. Domino Barter makes happy members who choose to remain members even without a contract.

Who should barter?
Any business operating at less than 95% capacity. Any business that often finds itself with downtime or has excess inventory.

Who should not barter?
Any company that is already struggling to meet their current demands should probably not barter.

Why is a barter club better than one-on-one trades?
With direct trades, you do something for John and John gives you a credit with him. You can't spend that credit with anyone else. In a barter club, you do something for Frank and Frank pays you barter dollars for your product or service. Now you can spend those barter dollars with anyone else in the barter club.

What other companies are already in Domino Barter?
Click on What's Available to see a list of categories. You won't be able to see exact business names until you are a member.

How do I get paid when I sell something?
The buyer of your product or service has the capability to pay you online. However, it is advised that the seller run all payment transactions as soon as possible. Logon to the web site or call the toll-free phone number to run transactions (pay and get paid). See our introductory video to see exactly how to post a transaction.

Do I have to pay taxes on barter income?
Yes. The federal government considers barter income to be the same as cash income. Therefore, we provide a 1099-B to all barter members each year. Deductions are also treated the same. If you spend barter dollars on a business expense, non-profit donation, etc., then you will be able to claim those deductions ... just like it was cash.

I need something now. Do I have to join and wait for someone to buy from me before I can get what I need?
No. You may qualify for a line of credit that will allow you to start buying immediately. Also, we may already have a member who needs exactly what you sell. You could make your first sale as soon as you join.

I am a contractor (painter, plumber, etc). Who covers my cash expenses for materials / parts?
The buyer pays cash for your parts / materials. The buyer usually has the option to purchase these items on their own or choose to buy them from the contractor (you) with cash. Your labor fees are expected to be charged at 100% barter.

Do I need to have good credit in order to barter?
No. A credit check is not required to join Domino Barter.
